Community and Neighbourhood Watch News - Issue 42 - February 2008

Ward 10 - Meadows / Morningside

This is the February edition of your monthly newsletter.
There were reported crimes in respect of your ward for the month of January 2008.

DOMESTIC HOUSEBREAKING

There were four housebreakings and three attempted housebreakings.

On the 4th Jan, premises at Gillespie Crescent were entered after climbing scaffolding and entering through an insecure window. A further attempt was made to enter another flat to no avail.

On the 9th Jan a flat at Bruntsfield Place was entered by forcing the front door. A 21 year old male has since been charged with this crime.

On the 17th Jan an attempt was made to enter premises at Leamington Terrace by forcing the front door, but no entry was gained.

On the 18th Jan an attempt was made to enter premises at Viewforth Terrace by forcing the front door, but no entry was gained.

On the 28th Jan entry was gained to a flat at Leamington Terrace by forcing the front door with a jemmy or similar.

On the 29th Jan premises at Viewforth Terrace were broken into by forcing the front door.

BUSINESS HOUSEBREAKING

There were two attempted business housebreakings. The first attempt occurred overnight between the 14th- 15th Jan at Bruntsfield Place. The front door to the premises was forced open and an attempt was made to force open the safe within.

On the 30th Jan a shop premises at Leven Street was entered and two sheds at the rear of the property were searched but nothing was stolen.

AUTO CRIME

There was one attempt made to steal a motor vehicle. This occurred between the 26th – 28th Jan at Bruntsfield Avenue when a Mazda MX5 was broken into and the stearing column was forced.

THEFT FROM VEHICLES

There were four thefts from vehicles.

Between the 1st – 5th Jan a Ford Escort was entered at Gillespie Crescent and the car radio was stolen.

Between the 15th – 17th Jan a Ford Ka was entered at Lochrin Place but nothing was stolen.

Between the 16th – 17th Jan a BMW was entered at Lochrin Place and two BMW badges were stolen from the vehicle.

A Toyota was also entered between the 18th- 21st Jan at Lochrin Place. An iPod was stolen.

ARRESTS/ REPORTS

Three 17 year old males were reported for assault at Gilmore Place on the 1st Jan.

A 23 year old male was reported for a public indecency at Bruntsfield Place on the 1st Jan.

A 17 year old female was reported for two counts of vandalism at Gilmore Place and Home Street on the 4th Jan.

A 43 year old male was reported for theft by shoplifting at Home Street and Bruntsfield Place on the 5th Jan. This male was also reported for further theft by shoplifting on the 8th Jan at Bruntsfield Place, the 9th Jan at Colinton road and at Bruntsfield Place on the 10th Jan and on two occasions at Bruntsfield Place on the 19th Jan.

A 21 year old male was reported for a housebreaking at Bruntsfield Place on the 9th Jan.

A 27 year old male was reported for a breach of the peace and resisting arrest at Bruntsfield Place on the 16th Jan.

A 13 year old male was reported for a malicious damage at Viewforth on the 18th Jan.

A 15 year old male was reported for a breach of the peace and possession of an offensive weapon at Gillespie Place on the 23rd Jan.

A 21 year old male and a 25 year old male were reported for a breach of the peace, in separate incidents at Lochrin Place on the 27th Jan.

A 20 year old male was reported for urinating in public at Home Street on the 28th Jan.

TAGGED INCIDENTS

During the month there were 164 incidents logged by the police in respect of your ward. Of these only 11 were graded 1, i.e. emergencies; 37 were Graded 2 i.e. not emergencies but should be responded to within one hour. The remainder were dealt with by the Community Beat Officer or patrol officers.
