DOMESTIC HOUSEBREAKING

There was one attempted housebreaking. Between the 22nd and 24th Dec an attempt was made to force entry to a room within a hostel at Bruntsfield Place. No entry was gained.

BUSINESS HOUSEBREAKING

There was one attempted business housebreaking. This occurred on the overnight between the 5th-6th Dec at Polwarth Terrace. A window was smashed and entry gained but the culprit made off without stealing any property.

I’m delighted to say that once again there were NO THEFTS of motor vehicles this month.

Between the 28th Dec and the 30th Dec the boot of a Peugeot motor car was entered and golf clubs and equipment was stolen.

THEFT SHOPLIFTING

There were seven thefts by shoplifting this month. With the exception of one shoplifting of jewellery, all the other shopliftings related to food and drink items.

A 42 year old male was reported for a domestic assault at Viewforth Gardens on the 27th Dec.

INFORMATION

Throughout December there were High Visibility foot patrols in Bruntsfield and Morningside with the purpose of preventing retail and alcohol related crime.

There was certainly a decrease in crime in December and although there were incidents of shoplifting the incidents related to relatively low value food and drink thefts from supermarkets. With one exception there were no thefts from any other retail premises.

TAGGED INCIDENTS

During the month there were 174 incidents logged by the police in respect of your ward. Of these only 17 were graded 1, i.e. emergencies; 35 were Graded 2 i.e. not emergencies but should be responded to within one hour. The remainder were dealt with by the Community Beat Officer or patrol officers.
