Police Report - 2007 January to November
Below is a resume of the crime that has occurred in the
relevant streets involved in the Neighbourhood watch Scheme.
The figures quoted are from 1st January 2007 to 20th November
2007.
As in previous years, the majority of crime is vehicle
related, whether it is theft from vehicles or vandalism.
It is still apparent that people are continuing to leave
items of value on open display within vehicles. IF property is removed
from the vehicle or at least secured in the boot or out of sight, then
the likelihood of a vehicle being broken into is greatly reduced. Please
take the time to remove your valuables from your vehicle. This especially
applies to Satellite Navigation systems, which are of high value and do
unfortunately have a resale value. DO NOT
where possible leave Satellite Navigation equipment on display. Take the
time out to remove the system from view. Removing the system will still
be quicker than having to organise the repair of a car door/window and
replacing the equipment!
Do make sure that when it comes to home security that
you continue to use all locks fitted. Sometimes people rely solely on
the yale lock fitted to a door, even although a mortise lock is fitted.
The yale lock is a good lock but not a great lock. A mortise lock will
provide greater security for your door(s). Ensure that you have at least
one mortise lock fitted to your door(s). Always use all your locks fitted
to you door(s) and windows when your property is unattended, even if the
property is unattended for just a few minutes.
Remember, even when you are at home, don’t leave
all your doors and windows open. Sometimes porch doors are left insecure
only for a briefcase/purse/laptop to be left near the door. There are
opportunist thieves who are brazen enough to enter an insecure porch/doorway
and take your property.
You are however fortunate to reside in lovely part of
Edinburgh where crime is minimal, but we cannot rest on our laurels. By
taking simple measures you/we can reduce crime further.
Furthermore, if you do see anyone acting suspiciously
CALL THE POLICE.
