Community and Neighbourhood Watch News - Issue 40 - December 2007

Ward 10 - Meadows / Morningside

This is the December edition of your monthly newsletter.
There were 49 reported crimes in respect of your ward for the month of November 2007.

DOMESTIC HOUSEBREAKING

There was one housebreakings and one attempted housebreaking this month.

On the 4th Nov an attempt was made to enter property at Lochrin Place by forcing the front door open. Entry was gained to the premises but nothing was stolen.

On the 28th Nov entry was gained to property at Bruntsfield Gardens by opening an INSECURE window and climbing in. Electronic equipment was stolen.

BUSINESS HOUSEBREAKING

There was one business housebreaking. This occurred on the 17th Nov at Polwarth Terrace. A 21 year old male has since been reported for this after he left his fingerprint at the scene of the crime!

AUTO CRIME

There were NO THEFTS of motor vehicles this month.

THEFT FROM VEHICLES

There were six thefts from vehicles.

On the 1st Nov a Renault was broken into in Spylaw Road and an Ipod stolen.

Between the 28th October and the 1st Nov a Citroen motor car was entered by unknown means at Merchiston Park and a CD player stolen.

Between 2nd – 3rd Nov a wing mirror was stolen of an Audi motor car in Merchiston Avenue.

On the 6th Nov an INSECURE VW Polo was entered at Merchiston Park and a CD player and purse stolen from within.

Between the 6th – 7th Nov an INSECURE Honda motor car was entered and

On the 12th Nov a Mercedes motor car was entered at Merchiston avenue by smashing the front offside window. A radio and clothing were stolen.

ARRESTS/ REPORTS

A 16 year old male was reported for an assault and breach of the peace on the 9th Nov.

A 23 year old male was reported for possessing a knife, theft and assault at Colinton Road on the 18th Nov.

A 43 year old male was reported for a Fraud at Bruntsfield Place on the 15th Nov.

A 21 year old male was reported for theft by housebreaking at Polwarth Terrace on the 17th Nov.

Two 18 year old males were reported for a racial breach of the peace at Lochrin Buildings on the 17th Nov.

A 35 year old male was reported for the possession of drugs and a Breach of the Peace at Polwarth Terrace on the 27th Nov.

A 38 year old male was reported for a Breach of the peace at Bruntsfield Place on the 28th Nov.

Simply SECURING the vehicle or window concerned should and could have prevented three of the crimes mentioned in this newsletter.

DO NOT give a thief a chance. Many of the crimes mentioned are opportunist thefts and by leaving property INSECURE you are inviting a thief to steal your property.

Take time to SECURE YOUR PROPERTY PROPERLY.

TAGGED INCIDENTS

During the month there were 162 incidents logged by the police in respect of your ward. Of these only 13 were graded 1, i.e. emergencies; 48 were Graded 2 i.e. not emergencies but should be responded to within one hour. The remainder were dealt with by the Community Beat Officer or patrol officers.
